Christmas is almost here and that means we’re decking the halls! You can create this Wooden Christmas Sign with the Cricut Maker and have a custom home decor piece you’ll treasure for years.

I love BIG statement pieces for my holiday home decor, but they can be expensive! So I grabbed an old printer’s tray I found at a thrift store and created my own using images I found in Cricut Design Space. Don’t have a printer’s tray? Wooden Christmas Sign with Cricut Maker:

One of the best things about the Cricut Maker is the variety of materials it can cut. For this project I was able to cut glitter cardstock, chipboard and vinyl – and all I had to do was switch between my Knife Blade and my Fine Point Blade. It made creating a large scale project so much easier! This is my largest project by far and I can’t wait to make more. So grab some supplies and let’s make this thing together!

Cricut Strong Grip 12×24 mat
Cricut Standard Grip 12×24 mat
Cricut Vinyl
Cricut Chipboard
transfer tape
green glitter cardstock
painters tape
adhesive
printer’s tray or pre-made wood sign
drill
cup hooks and jack chain

HOW TO MAKE A WOODEN CHRISTMAS SIGN WITH THE CRICUT MAKER

1. Measure tray (or whatever wood sign you are using) and size B&B image to fit.

2. Below is the what the entire file looks like in Design Space. Hide the santa sleigh image, then cut B&B sign from vinyl color of your choice. The sign image was sliced since it is so large, you can edit for size if needed.

NOTE: The flourishes on my finished project are slightly different than the flourishes in the DS file – I wanted to keep the price for the file reasonable! 🙂

3. Tape two sheets of chipboard to a 12×24 Strong Grip mat. Be sure to tape them in the middle as well. You do NOT need to split the image before cutting.

4. Hide the B&B sign image and unhide the santa sleigh to cut. Replace your fine point blade with your Knife Blade. Cut the santa sleigh three times total – all from chipboard.

TIP: DO NOT remove the tape from the center where the two pieces of chipboard meet. If you mirror one of the images it will shift where the two sheets meet, which will make the finished piece even sturdier.

While you are waiting for the sleighs to cut – rough cut around the vinyl pieces and place to fit on the printer’s tray.

Apply transfer tape to each piece then apply to the tray.

Place two sheets of glitter cardstock on a 12×24 Standard Grip mat and cut the same santa sleigh image.

Adhere chipboard layers to create a thick finished project.

Drill two holes – one in santa’s head (sorry Santa!) and one in the left reindeer antler. Adhere green glitter cardstock then use a pin to poke a matching hole.

Decide where you want the sleigh to hang from the sign. Screw cup hooks in to the underside of the printer’s tray to line up with the holes in the sleigh, then add chain. TIP: The chains will not be even on both sides, one will be a little shorter than the other to make the sleigh hang even.
