We all want to make the most of our Cricut supplies. With so many different materials available, the possibilities are endless! – I mean, you have adhesive vinyl, heat transfer vinyl, iron-on vinyl, infusible ink, and more!
However, there is one material that is Cricut’s best-kept secret and doesn’t seem to get as much love as the others (in my humble opinion).
That material is Adhesive Foil!
Perfect for both the Explore machines and the Maker machine, adhesive foil adds glam to any project. It’s easy to work with, comes in a variety of colors, and can be used to create different types of projects.
So, with all that in mind, today I am sharing easy beginner projects that can be made with your favorite cutting machine and adhesive foil!

BEFORE WE TALK EASY PROJECTS, LET’S TALK ABOUT CRICUT ADHESIVE FOIL:
If this is going to be your first time using Cricut Adhesive Foil, and you don’t know what it is, I’m going to give you a brief overview by answering some of the most common questions that I get on social media!
What is Cricut Adhesive Foil?
Cricut Adhesive Foil is a shiny material that is exactly what it sounds like! It’s a foil material that has adhesive on the backside, and it can be run through your Cricut machine.
What machine can Cricut Adhesive Foil be used with?
As I mentioned above, the adhesive foil works with the Cricut Explore Machine (including the Cricut Explore Air), the Cricut Maker Machine, and even the Cricut Joy Machine! So, you can easily use the material to fit whatever size project you want to create, which is always a plus.
Is Cricut Adhesive Foil easy to use?
Using the adhesive foil is super simple because you don’t need to worry about heat foiling or reactive transfer foiling (which is a whole other foil conversation – LOL). In this case, all you need to do is create a design in Cricut Design Space, cut it out in adhesive foil, and apply it to your chosen surface using transfer tape! It’s really that simple!
With that being said, Cricut does make helpful guides where they break down each machine, blade depth, pressure, speed, multi-cut, and blade assembly by material. Do I need a special Cricut Mat or any tools to use the Adhesive Foil?
No! All you need is your basic Cricut tools like a Standard Gip Mat or StrongGrip Mat, Transfer Tape, Weeder, and Scraper.
Is Cricut Adhesive Foil hard to weed?
This is honestly going to depend on the person – and we all know that the internet has thoughts on weeding (LOL – either you like it or you don’t)!
Personally, I think Adhesive Foil is easy to weed, and I have never had an issue. Also, you can always try different weeding techniques like standard weeding or reverse weeding to see what you like better.
What type of colors and finishes does it come in?
Cricut Adhesive Foil is available in a variety of finishes, including metallic, matte, and stainless. Plus, they even have sampler packs so you can try out a variety of colors!
What about projects? What can I make using Cricut Adhesive Foil?
When it comes to the types of projects that you can create, the sky is the limit! You can create so many fun Cricut projects, ranging from handmade cards to home decor pieces. is the adhesive foil material safe for the microwave? I want to do mugs for Christmas but I want to know if it is safe before I start.

Hi Diana! Adhesive foil is not safe for the microwave…regular vinyl isn’t either (when it gets hot it can give off toxic fumes). If you are wanting to make mugs I would use infusible ink – that is microwave and dishwasher safe! :) Hope that helps!
