The Free Best Cricut Font To Use For Craft Projects

Finding the perfect font in Cricut Design Space is so easy due to all the types of fonts that they have in their system! They have bold fonts, script fonts, very thin fonts, calligraphy fonts, sans-serif fonts, cursive fonts, decorative fonts, and so much more! You can even upload your own fonts into Cricut Design Space to create those special projects that have an extra personal touch. This can be done by creating your own fonts from scratch, or you can buy them from places like Creative Market or Creative Fabrica.

With all the different styles, various designs, and different categories of fonts, you might be wondering if there is one go-to font that is good for a variety of craft projects (whether we are talking cardmaking or home decor). Well, I am here to answer that question because today I am sharing one of my all-time favorite fonts that is perfect for all types of Cricut projects. Plus, I am sharing six different projects that you can make with this amazing font, and one of those is a mini DIY from yours truly!

BEST CRICUT FONT: VARSITY LETTER – NARROW

Now, I could easily share a collection of my favorite Cricut fonts, but you know we are all about simple crafting here. So, if I had to pick (what I think is) one of the best fonts in Cricut Design Space, that would be Varisty Letter – Narrow! 

Varsity Letter – Narrow is a FREE font that is an outline version of the regular Cricut Varsity font. Technically, there are several choices when it comes to the Varsity font style. You have Varsity, Varsity Letter, and Varsity Letter – Narrow. The reason why I like the Varsity Design Space fonts in general is because they have a classic style, clean lines, and are easy to work with. However, with that being said, the reason why the narrow version is my personal favorite (out of all the Varsity choices) is that you have more options for customization (which you will see in the projects below). 

Plus, you can use this font with any Cricut machine! So, whether you have a Cricut Maker or Cricut Joy, you can easily use this font to create all types of unique projects. 

Speaking of projects, like the font name suggests, Varsity Letter – Narrow is a popular choice for all those sport-themed projects. For example, jerseys, t-shirts, sports bags, event posters, pennants, etc. As much as I like a good sports project, which you will see a few of today,  you can use this font to create so many other things beyond the world of sports! 

6 PROJECTS WITH ONE CRICUT FONT:

Let’s talk about school supplies!

We have ten nieces and nephews and know how crazy back-to-school time can be for their folks. We ALSO know what it is like to have a name that is hard to find on customized supplies (Alexandra? Mackenzie?) – so when I found these pencil cases at the Target Dollar Spot, I thought it would be a quick and easy project to finish in an afternoon and let them know we’re thinking about them as they head back to school!

The Varsity Letter – Narrow font was perfect for these pencil cases and would be ideal for ANY school or sport-related project!

Speaking of school, my high school reunion was last fall, and I used cardstock in my school colors to create these unique name tags for everyone who attended! They were a huge hit and also worked as a sort of favor that each person could take home once the event was done!

We can’t talk about the Varsity Letter – Narrow font and not talk about sports!

If sports events are your thing, and you need a banner, then check out this project from Jessica Roe at Everyday Party Magazine! In her tutorial, Jessica shows you how to make a sports banner from start to finish, using the Varsity Letter – Narrow font and a few Cricut tools. She needed to make a kickball tournament banner, but you could easily use her tutorial to create a banner for whatever sporting event you are attending!

Did you know that almost all of the fonts in Design Space can be drawn/written as well as cut? This includes Varsity Letter – Narrow, and it’s a game-changer! With that in mind, I think Cricut pens are the unsung heroes of Cricut products. They are SO versatile and make your creating so much easier! From custom invitations to cool party favors, these pens have you covered.

Case in point, head on over to Design Space for this Make It Now football party invitation. This invitation features the Varsity Letter – Narrow font on the inside of the card, and they would be great invites for a Super Bowl party!

HOW TO CREATE CHIPBOARD LETTERS USING THE BEST CRICUT FONT:

One of the reasons I use the Varsity Letter – Narrow font so often is that you get several layers to choose from/use for different types of projects. I created these chipboard letters using some Cricut Chipboard, the Knife Blade, and a little paint, and I am loving the results!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

• Cricut Chipboard
• Cricut Knife Blade
• Strong Grip Mat
• paint (in your choice of color)
• painter’s/masking tape
• Xyron Creative Station Lite (optional)

CUTTING CHIPBOARD:

1. Use painter’s/masking tape to secure the chipboard to the Strong Grip Mat. You will need two sheets of chipboard for this project.

2. Size letters to fit your project – make sure you unhide (click on the eye image) the second layer. These letters are 5” tall and are ready to cut in Design Space!

3. When using the Knife Blade, be sure the star rollers (white discs) are pushed all the way to the right, then load your Knife Blade and your chipboard and start cutting. Note that these letters will take a while to cut. I made myself a cup of coffee and started some laundry while the Maker did all the hard work!

PAINTING & GLUING CHIPBOARD:

4. Remove letters from the mat and paint as desired.

5. Adhere layers as desired (I used my Xyron Creative Station Lite) and add to your Fall décor!

For my chipboard letters, I placed them in a basket on my coffee table, but you could display these letters in so many different ways. For example, you could place them on your mantel, on a bookshelf, on a floating shelf, or in a tiered tray. You could also glue each chipboard letter to a long piece of string and turn them into a fun banner!

I hope these fun projects help you take a second look at the fonts available in Design Space and the endless possibilities you can create with them! Chipboard Letter Home Decor
