FREE PUMPKIN PRINTABLES FOR EASY FELT FUN
Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to add a little fun to your mantel or front porch than with an easy felt craft that can be brought out year after year? Today we’re sharing a FREE printable pattern sheet to make interchangeable pumpkin face features to swap out during the season. Your kids will love it!
Supplies Needed:
- Felt 8” x 12”– Bright Green, Dark Brown, Olive Green (1 each), Black (3 each)
- Acrylic Craft Paint – Dark Brown
- Felt Yardage – Orange (1/2 yard)
- Wooden Embroidery Hoop – 10” diameter
- Ribbons – Green, variety of colors and styles – 12” lengths
- Scissors
- Fabric Glue
- White Chalk Pencil (comes with fabric glue linked above)
- Permanent Black Marker
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Paint Brush
- FACE FEATURES PATTERNS
HOW TO CREATE FELT PUMPKIN:
1. To begin, gather all supplies. Paint the outside and top edge of the outside ring of the embroidery hoop with Dark Brown acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
2. Fit the Orange Felt Yardage loosely into the embroidery hoop. Pull felt gently from the back to ensure the Felt is taught and then tighten the screw at the top of the hoop.
Trim the excess Orange Felt from the back of the embroidery hoop with scissors.
Apply a thin line of Fabric Glue to the cut edge of the Orange Felt to secure. Set aside to dry.
3. Download, print, and cut out the HOOP JACK-O-LANTERN PATTERNS here: PAGE ONE, PAGE TWO
Trace the pumpkin stem onto Brown Felt twice and the leaves onto Bright Green and Olive Green Felt with the Permanent Marker, then cut out.
4. Attach stems together with hot glue and then adhere to the back top of the hoop. Apply a half-inch bead of hot glue to the base of each leaf and fold in half to create dimension.
5. Cut 12” lengths of five to six different green ribbons and then tie in a loose knot to the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop.
6. Glue leaves to either side of the screw at the top of the hoop.
CREATE FELT FACIAL FEATURES
Have the kiddos help with this step to personalize your Jack-O-Lantern. Cut out the patterns, trace them onto the Black felt with a white chalk pencil, and then cut out with scissors. This works great for the larger and smaller features.
TIP: Make sure to cut on the INSIDE edge of the traced line so that you have clean, finished features since the eyes, noses, and mouths are reversible.
There are four sets of features included – four pairs of eyes, four noses, and four mouths – for variety. But this is the perfect time to personalize your hoop Jack-O-Lantern with features you create with your kiddos. Get creative and have FUN!
This updated version of a felt board is a fun project to create in an afternoon with the kiddos, then change it up daily to suit your mood!
