When it comes to being a ”crafter” I am always being asked (by either my family or friends) to create some type of party decor based on the latest Disney movie! Raise your hand if you are in the same boat!

One Disney film that has been super popular in the last several years is Encanto! It’s an adorable movie about the Madrigal family who lives in the mountains of Colombia. The family lives in a magical house where each child (except for Mirabel) has been blessed with a unique gift that they use to help the community called Encanto. However, each family member begins to lose their powers and it’s up to Mirabel to figure out why it’s happening and to save her family. 

Plus, if that doesn’t sound interesting enough, the original songs in the movie were composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the broadway musical Hamilton!

So, with everyone wanting to have an Encanto party, today I will be sharing a roundup of Encnato-themed crafts and my own Magical Candle project.

ENCANTO CRAFT FOR KIDS: ENCANTO CANDLE

You can’t have an Encanto birthday party without a Magical Candle! 

The Magical Candle in the movie Encanto holds the miracles which gave the Madrigal family their unique gifts and their house magic. It’s an important part of the film, but buying recreations of the candle to be used for party decor can be really expensive. Today I am going to show you how to save money and how you can make your own version of the Magical Candle using cardboard tubes and our free printable. Best of all, you can get almost all of these items at the Dollar Store! {FTC Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links which means I may make a small commission on any sales at no additional cost to you.}

SUPPLIES NEEDED: 

• Recycled Cardboard Toilet Paper Roll
• Two (2) Gold Tinsel Chenille Stems
• Colored Pencils, Markers, or Crayons
• Gold Glitter Glue
• Glue Stick
• Scissors
• White Cardstock
• FREE Magical Candle Patterns Printable (see below)

HOW TO MAKE THE MAGICAL CANDLE FROM ENCANTO: 

1. Gather all supplies. Download and print the Magical Candle Patterns Printable onto white cardstock. This pattern sheet has two circular flames and one candle with three butterflies.

2. The next step is to color the Magical Candle patterns with either colored pencils, crayons, markers, or whatever art supplies you have on hand.

TIP: Use a variety of yellows, golds, and oranges. Mix and match supplies to get the perfect combination of colors. 

3. Cut out the two flames with scissors. Fold the first gold tinsel chenille stem in half. Attach the tips of the chenille stems to each one of the circle flames with a glue stick, as the candle wick. Then glue the two flames together.

Take the second gold tinsel chenille stem and bend it to create a circle. Twist the ends of the chenille stem circle around the candle wick.

Add gold glitter glue to the flame and set aside to dry.

4. Cut out the candle pattern with scissors. Add gold glitter glue to the outlines of the three butterflies, and then set aside to dry.

5. Once dry, apply a generous coat of glue stick to the back of the candle pattern, then wrap around the outside of the recycled cardboard toilet paper roll. Trim any excess from the candle pattern.

To finish, place the flame inside the candle.

Once you have added your flame inside the candle, you are ready to display your own magically candle!
