Easy To Make Paper Plate Peacock Craft For Kids

Use a paper plate, green paint, and some paper to create this majestic paper plate peacock that is perfect for kids of all ages!

Did you know that paper plates and peacocks are a match made in crafty heaven?! LOL

Well, today you are going to learn why, when you see this adorable peacock that I made using supplies you probably already have at home. This project is simple to make, customizable, and can be completed in about 30 minutes. Plus, I included a FREE pattern to make the project even easier to create. So, grab your paper plates and blue paint and learn how to make this fun peacock by following our tutorial below!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

• Paper Plate
• Googly Eyes (aka Wiggly Eyes)
• Toilet Paper Tube
• Craft Paint – Bright Green, Bright Blue, Pink
• Cardstock – Yellow, Bright Blue, Royal Blue
• Chenille Stem, Bright Green
• Pom Poms, Bright Blue
• Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
• Paintbrush
• Scissors
• Permanent Marker
• Pencil with a new eraser
• Peacock Pattern (you can download it below)

NOTE: When it comes to making this project, you have several options when it comes to plates and sizes. I used a regular-sized paper plate (9 inches in diameter), but you could use a small paper plate for this project. Also, if you don’t have green paint or don’t have time to paint, you can use green paper plates instead.

SAFETY GUIDELINES: Regardless of your child’s abilities or age, adult supervision is always required. This is because this paper plate craft involves cutting, painting, and gluing the paper plate.

HOW TO MAKE PAPER PLATE PEACOCK:

PAINTING PEACOCK BODY & TAIL:

1. Fold the paper plate at the 2/3 mark by lining up the bottom edge with the circular indent and creasing firmly. Cut the paper plate along the fold with scissors.

2. Basecoat the larger section of the inside of the paper plate with bright green acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.

3. Basecoat the outside of a toilet paper tube with bright blue paint. Set aside to dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.

CREATING PEACOCK FEATHERS:

4. Download and print the Peacock Patterns, then cut them out with scissors. Trace the beak once and the teardrop six times onto yellow cardstock, trace the rounded triangle six times onto bright blue cardstock, trace the wings twice, and the rounded heart six times onto royal blue cardstock.

TIP: If you don’t have cardstock, you could also use construction paper, craft foam, or craft felt for this project.

5. Cut out the peacock patterns with scissors, making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.

6. Build the peacock feathers by layering the royal blue rounded heart onto the bright blue rounded triangle onto the yellow teardrop. Secure layers with a glue gun and glue sticks. 

TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

GLUING PEACOCK TOGETHER:

7. Attach the six peacock feathers to the outer edge of the paper plate tail with a glue gun and glue sticks.

8. Attach two googly eyes to the peacock’s face with a glue gun and glue sticks, then glue the beak underneath the eyes. Create two cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in pink acrylic craft paint and stamping on either side of the beak.

9. Cut a bright green chenille stem into three equal pieces using scissors. Attach a bright blue pom pom to one end of the chenille stem pieces.

10. Attach the pom pom feathers to the inside of the toilet paper tube with a glue gun and glue sticks. Draw two nostrils at the top of the beak with a black marker.

11. Attach the peacock body to the center of the peacock’s tail with a glue gun and glue sticks. To finish, glue the wings onto the right and left sides of the peacock body.

Once the wings have been attached to the peacock’s body, you are ready to display it!

I loved how this project turned out! It was an easy craft to make, and it’s a great recycling project. Also, if you want to make this project even more special, you could add a few magnets to the back of the peacock, so you can display your little one’s artwork on the fridge!
