Easy To Make Paper Plate Carrot Easter Craft For Kids

Grab a paper plate and some orange paint to make this adorable paper plate carrot just in time for Easter! 

We made a fun paper plate craft for St. Patrick’s Day, now it’s time to make one for Easter! 

Today, we are upgrading our traditional handprint carrots and are making a paper plate carrot craft! If you are not familiar with handprint carrot crafts, they are basically carrots made of paper or that have been painted onto paper. Then, the carrot tops (aka the stem) are your child’s handprint.

Now, depending on your child’s age, a traditional handprint carrot craft might be perfect for them. However, I wanted to come up with a craft project that was perfect for both younger children and older children. Meaning, that the craft would be easy enough for the younger kids to make, but engaging enough for the older kids.

So, grab the craft materials below and our FREE printables to create these fun carrots that you will keep out all spring long!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

• Paper Plates
• Acrylic Craft Paint – Light Orange, Medium Orange, Pink – this set has several shades of each
• Sponge Dauber
• Wiggle Eyes
• Cardstock, Bright Green, Medium Green
• Paintbrush
• Scissors or safety scissors if working with kids
• Permanent Marker, Black
• Pencil
• Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
• Carrot Pattern (you can download it below)

NOTE: When it comes to making this project, you have several options when it comes to plates and sizes. I used a regular-sized paper plate (9 inches in diameter), but you could use a small paper plate for this project. Also, if you don’t have orange paint or don’t have time to paint, you can use orange paper plates instead.

SAFETY GUIDELINES: Regardless of your child’s abilities or age, adult supervision is always required. This is because this paper plate craft involves cutting, painting, and gluing the paper plate. 

HOW TO MAKE A PAPER PLATE CARROT: 

1. Gather all supplies and craft tools. Basecoat the inside of one paper plate with light orange acrylic craft paint, and one paper plate with medium orange acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.

2. Download and print the carrot pattern, then cut it out with scissors. Trace the carrot onto both of the paper plates with a pencil. 

3. Cut out the two carrots with scissors, making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.

4. Attach two wiggle eyes to each carrot with a glue gun and glue sticks.

TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

5. Create cheeks by dipping a sponge dauber into pink acrylic craft paint and stamping on either side of the carrot’s face.

6. Draw a smile from cheek to cheek with a black marker.

7. For each carrot, trace the handprint pattern once onto bright green cardstock and twice onto medium green cardstock with a pencil.

TIP: You could also use colored craft foam or craft felt for this project.

8. Cut out the patterns with scissors, making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.

9. For each carrot, attach a bright green hand in the center of two medium green hands with a glue gun and glue sticks, then glue the fronds to the top of the carrots.

Once you are happy with the look of your carrots, you are ready to display them!
