Easy To Make Easter Basket Paper Plate Craft For Kids

Make this fun paper plate Easter basket with our easy-to-follow tutorial and free printables in 30 minutes! 

Whether you have younger kids or older kids, everyone loves Easter activities! If you are looking for a fun Easter craft to make this year that doesn’t involve plastic eggs, then check out this Easter basket craft! 

This Easter basket craft can be made in 30 minutes, uses basic supplies, and includes a free printable of eggs to color! Our egg printable includes 9 different egg patterns that you can color and cut out for your Easter basket. In today’s tutorial, I just printed them out onto regular copy paper for basic coloring. However, you could print the eggs out onto different types of paper to expand the mediums you can use. For example, if you printed onto heavy cardstock, you could use paint or markers. If you printed onto watercolor paper, you could use watercolor paints. 

The possibilities are endless, so feel free to use what you have on hand to make this adorable paper plate Easter basket!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

• Paper Plate 
• Paper Shred, Green
• Acrylic Craft Paint – Medium Brown
• Colored Pencils 
• Cardstock – White
• Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks 
• Paintbrush
• Scissors 
• Pencil
• Permanent Marker, Black
• Easter Basket and Egg Printables (download below)

NOTE: When it comes to making this project, you have several options when it comes to plates and sizes. I used a regular-sized paper plate (9 inches in diameter), but you could use a small paper plate for this project. Also, if you don’t have brown paint or don’t have time to paint, you can use brown paper plates instead.

SAFETY GUIDELINES: Regardless of your child’s abilities or age, adult supervision is always required. This is because this paper plate craft involves cutting, painting, and gluing the paper plate. 

HOW TO MAKE A PAPER PLATE EASTER BASKET: 

CREATING EASTER BASKET: 

1. Gather all supplies. Basecoat the outside of the paper plate with medium brown acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.

2. Download, print, and cut out the basket pattern. Trace the basket onto the outside of the paper plate with a pencil.

3. Cut out the basket with scissors, making sure to cut outside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.

4. Using a black marker, draw a plaid (or basket weave) pattern on the base of the basket, and some lines along the handle.

CREATING EASTER EGGS: 

5. Download and print the Easter egg pattern sheet onto white cardstock.

6. Color in all of the Easter egg images with colored pencils, crayons, or markers.

7. Cut out the Easter egg images with scissors, making sure to cut outside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.

8. Attach five or six Easter eggs together in a stack using a glue gun and glue sticks. 

ASSEMBLING EASTER BASKET:

9. Attach a handful of green paper shreds to the back edge of the Easter basket with a glue gun and glue sticks. Make sure that the paper shred grass is hanging over the front edge of the basket.

NOTE: You could use Easter grass (the thinner plastic kind) for this step. However, just keep in mind that since you are working with hot glue, the Easter grass is thinner than the paper shred. Due to that, you may want to use finger protectors.

10. To finish, attach the Easter eggs to the back of the basket with a glue gun and glue sticks.

Once you’re happy with how your Easter basket looks, you are ready to display it!

I just love how this little basket turned out! 

These Easter baskets would be a great way to keep the kids busy on Easter Sunday. Also, if you wanted to make this project simpler for the kids, you could always pre-make the baskets (including adding the paper shred) and have the kids only color in the eggs. Then, once the eggs were colored, you could help them glue the eggs to the basket. – Easy Peasy!
