EASY DIY EASTER DECOR
“If you wait til the last minute it only takes a minute” is my husband’s favorite phrase (and life motto) and I gotta admit sometimes I am the same way. ESPECIALLY when it comes to holidays!
After looking around my living room, I decided that I wanted to add a little something to my Easter home decor but didn’t want to spend a bunch of money. I rummaged around in my studio and viola! DIY Easter Decor in a just a few minutes!
So, if you are looking for an easy way to create some last-minute Easter decorations for yourself then check out the tutorial below! SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Happy Easter SVG (grab yours below)
- Cricut Joy – you can also use your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore
- Iron On – I used Smart Iron On in Teal
- Weeding Tool
- EasyPress (any size) and mat – you can also use an iron
- 100% cotton canvas in a natural color, 6”x8” with frayed edges
- Scissors
- Wooden dowel, stick or driftwood, ⅜” thick, 8” long
- Hot glue gun and clear glue sticks
- Natural twine, cut to 12” long

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAkE MINI HAPPY EASTER BANNER
Note – these instructions are for the Cricut Joy, but you can easily create this with the Cricut Explore Air or Cricut Maker machine using regular iron-on.
PREPARE THE MATERIALS
Cut a piece of 100% cotton canvas woven fabric measuring 6” wide x 8” high. Measure and mark the size and clip the edges with fabric scissors. Pull cut edges apart to create a frayed edge.

UPLOAD IMAGE IN TO DESIGN SPACE AND CUT
1. Upload the Happy Easter Egg SVG file into a blank canvas in Design Space. *Note: not sure how to save an image? Once you’ve selected the SVG image, right-click and select Save or Save As.
2. Open Cricut Design Space.
3. Click on the “+” sign to start a new project, opening up a blank canvas.
4. Click on the Upload button from the toolbar to insert the downloaded Happy Easter SVG onto the canvas.
5. With the image selected, click on “weld” to merge all loose pieces together.
6. Maintain the size at 4.25” wide x 5.5”high.
7. Adjust the color to match material color if desired.
8. With settings set to Cricut Joy, select “Make It” and choose “without mat” for cutting Smart Iron On.
9. Turn the Mirror On toggle button to on and continue.
10. Choose the material type in the drop down menu.
11. Upload the Smart Iron On into the Joy with the shiny side down and proceed with the cut following the instructions on the screen.
12. Remove the image and discard the excess vinyl using the wedding tool.
USING THE EASYPRESS
1. Position the mat on a flat surface.
2. Set the temperature following the chart for the type of vinyl and material being used or use this EasyPress Interactive Quick Reference Guide. In this case, the temperature was set to 340F.
3. Always test a scrap piece of material and vinyl beforehand and adjust the time and temperature accordingly.
4. Pre-press the canvas for 5 seconds.
5. Place the “Happy Easter” iron on the image face down with the shiny side up onto the canvas and apply heat for 30 seconds.
6. Turn over and press on the back side for an additional 15 seconds.
7. Let cool and peel the plastic part of the vinyl off carefully and discard.
ADDING HANGER
1. Preheat glue gun. Working quickly and on the wrong side of the banner, apply a dab of glue along the top edge of the canvas and press it against the stick. Roll the stick over and apply another dab of glue to hold it in place.
2. Tie a piece of twine to both ends of the stick and hang to enjoy!
