Are you looking for a fun Dollar Store pumpkin craft? Then grab some wooden oval plaques, paint, and ribbon to make the cutest pumpkin seasonal decor!
You know that we LOVE Dollar Store pumpkins around here! If you are new to this fact, let me get you caught up on why I love Dollar Store or Dollar Tree pumpkins!
My all-time favorite fall item is the Dollar Tree Foam Pumpkins! These foam pumpkins are technically made of styrofoam and are a great base for creating tons of fun fall decor. For example, a few years ago I spray-painted them to turn them into ”high-end-looking” pumpkins, and last fall, I wrapped them with yarn to turn them into fluffy pumpkins!
Now, between these two projects, the fluffy pumpkin has always been the most popular because it’s an easy tutorial to follow, it’s so much fun to make, and you only need a few craft supplies. However, the biggest issue that I hear every year is that the styrofoam pumpkins sell out earlier (which is a bummer).
So, due to that, this year, I wanted to create a Dollar Store pumpkin craft where you don’t need a styrofoam pumpkin!
SIMPLE DIY PUMPKIN DECOR:
As much as I love real pumpkins, faux pumpkins, plastic pumpkins, and styrofoam pumpkins, we are throwing all of that out the window today for …. wood oval plaques!
Ok, so that might not sound as exciting, but I promise you will have a higher chance of finding wood oval plaques in the craft section of your Dollar Store!
Plus, today’s craft is based on all those pumpkin decor pieces you are currently seeing at the big box home stores. These pumpkin decor pieces are really popular during the fall season but can cost a lot of money! However, today, I am going to show you how to make 2 pumpkin decor pieces for half the price! {FTC Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links which means I may make a small commission on sales at no additional cost to you.}

HOW TO MAKE DOLLAR STORE PUMPKIN CRAFT:
PAINTING & GLUING:
1. Paint the three small wooden ovals with dark orange acrylic craft paint and the three large wooden ovals with light orange acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat of paint, if necessary.
NOTE: I went with traditional pumpkin colors, but you use white paint or white chalk paint for a Farmhouse look.
2. Dry fit two of the small wooden ovals on the bottom and the third on the top until you are pleased with the composition. Remove the top oval and secure all three together with a glue gun and glue sticks. Repeat with the three large wooden ovals.
NOTE: Liquid craft glue can be used for this project, but you would have to wait for it to dry.
ADDING WOODEN STEM:
3. Attach two to three wood stems together with a glue gun and glue sticks to create two large wood stems, one for each pumpkin.
4. Secure the wooden pumpkin stem to the top of the pumpkin (in the middle) with a glue gun and glue sticks.
NOTE: You could also use wooden stems cut from tree branches found in the yard, wine corks, or even cinnamon sticks!
ADDING RIBBON:
5. Measure and cut two 12” lengths of natural jute twine. Lay twine out on work surface, then stack a variety of green ribbons, lace, and trims. Gather the twine and tie it securely in a double knot. Trim any long ends with scissors.
6. To finish, attach the scrappy ribbon bows to the front center of each pumpkin with a glue gun and glue sticks.
I love the way these beautiful pumpkins turned out! They would look so cute as part of a setup on a front porch or even in your dining room!
Finally, as I mentioned in the first step, I went with a traditional pumpkin look. However, you can have so much with this pumpkin tutorial by making it your own! For example, you could make mini pumpkins, Mod Podge decorative tissue paper on the wooden plaques, or add Cricut vinyl.
The possibilities are truly endless and there are so many creative ways that you could make these pumpkins your own. So, have fun, and feel free to tag me on Facebook or Instagram with your recreation of this project. I would love to see how you make these pumpkins!
