SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Dollar Tree pumpkin
- spray paint
- painter’s tape
- metal washers (optional)
- tacky glue (optional)
HOW TO MAKE DOLLAR STORE PUMPKINS:
Remove tags from all of your styrofoam pumpkins. Then, to leave the look of the green stem, cover the top of the pumpkin stems with painter’s tape.
Use spray paint to cover the entire pumpkin in assorted colors. Warning – the gold paint (two different brands – I have a LOT of gold spray paint) seemed to eat away at the pumpkins…you can see if you look closely at the final photos. The non-gold colors worked like a dream!
Also, if you only have craft paint on hand, you can still use it to decorate this faux pumpkin. The only thing you may need to do is add several layers of paint to get the look and coverage that you want.
TIP: If metallic or bright colors are not for you, then you could always use more natural colors! For example, to get a modern look, you could use white paint or gray paint.
Let dry and remove painter’s tape. If placing the pumpkins outside glue a metal washer to the bottom of each pumpkin to give it some weight.
NOTE: Use Tacky Glue and not a hot glue gun when adding the metal washer to the bottom of your pumpkins. This is because the hot glue will melt the styrofoam.
Add to your Fall display and enjoy! Note: these have been sitting out on our front porch for over a week – it has rained the past two days and they still look fab!
