As we’re spending more time inside I think we’ve all started to look at our decor in a new way. Come on in and see how easy it is to turn a plain old large basket in to a useful piece of farmhouse home decor!
{Disclosure: This is a sponsored post from Rust-Oleum but the opinions and projects are mine all mine!} In case you didn’t know, two of my favorite things in the world are DIY home decor and Rust-Oleum spray paint! Now that we’re spending so much time at home I’ve been spray painting ALL the things…including this beauty I brought home from JoAnn!
DIY FARMHOUSE DECOR: HOW TO PAINT A LARGE BASKET
I’m ashamed to say how long I’ve had this (cough cough February cough cough). I grabbed it up at JoAnn because I am always looking for different storage ideas, but I didn’t love the natural color. Thankfully – JoAnn also sells about a bajillion colors of Rust-Oleum so it was a one stop shop!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Rust-Oleum spray paint (we used 2x Ultra Cover Paint + Primer in White)
- Rust-Oleum spray paint trigger
- Round Tapered Utility Basket from JoAnn
- paint triangles (if needed)
TUTORIAL: How to Paint a Large Basket
1. Gently clean off any dust/dirt on your basket – especially if it has been laying around SINCE FEBRUARY!!! I used a small brush that comes with a dust pan.
2. Place basket opening side down and begin painting. Note – depending on the tightness of the weave (this one is pretty loose) you are going to use a LOT more paint than you think. The upside – the inside of the basket was 90% done when we flipped it over!
3. Flip over (if necessary) and paint the inside of the basket. Let dry.
And voila! An easy way to customize any basket to fit your home decor. From basic white to bright pink to anything in between – you can turn boring storage in to the focal point of any room. Happy painting!
