DECORATIVE WOOD Pumpkins
We use a lot of wood at our house and I’m always looking for projects to make the with “leftovers”. Even if you aren’t a woodworker you can buy one 4×4 post and have it cut down at the store – then you’ll be ready to create these wood pumpkins without the extra work! {FTC Disclaimer: this post contains affiliate links which means I may make a commission on any sales at no additional cost to you.}
supplies needed:
- 4×4 post cut into 3 pieces each measuring 4 1/2” high – you can use different heights as desired
- Matte Metallics Paint in Rose Gold, Ivory Pearl and Champagne
- paintbrushes
- three (3) wine corks
- raffia or assorted ribbon
- faux leaves – you could also cut some with your Cricut!
- Wood Glue
- Autumn SVG file (see below)
- Cricut Joy
- Glitter Vinyl (we used black but you can use any color you like!)
- Cricut Joy Standard Grip Mat
- Weeder
- Scissors
- Cricut Transfer Tape (not shown)

HOW TO MAKE DECORATIVE WOOD PUMPKINS WITH THE CRICUT JOY
Preparing the Wood Blocks:
1. Paint the surface of each of the wood blocks in a different Matte Metallics color. Let the paint dry and paint an additional coat as needed for full coverage.
2. Apply a dab of glue to the flat end of the cork and press one cork to the center top of each painted block. Leave glue to dry fully.
3. Tie a few strands of raffia around the cork and then insert and glue a few faux leaves to the top.

Preparing the Images:
1: Open a blank canvas in Design Space.
2. Upload the SVG file.
3. Maintain the size at 2.75” or adjust if needed.
4. Right click on the word to duplicate.
CUTTING:
1. With the machine sent to Joy, select “Make It” in Design Space.
2. Choose “On Mat” to cut vinyl using a standard grip mat.
3. Set the material type to Vinyl – Shimmer.
4. Follow prompts for loading the Glitter Vinyl into the Cricut Joy and cutting. When prompted, unload the mat from the cutting machine and peel off the vinyl.
Applying the Vinyl to the Pumpkin BlockS:
1. Cut around the phrase with a pair of scissors.
2. Peel away the excess vinyl and discard. Use a weeding tool to pick off any other excess vinyl.
3. Cut a piece of transfer tape a bit larger than the image and peel away the transfer tape backing.
4. Place the transfer tape overtop of the word. Gently rub the vinyl to help it stick to the transfer tape. Peel away the vinyl backing, leaving just the image adhered to the transfer tape.
5. Position the image with the transfer tape on to one side of the painted wooden block. Press the vinyl word down with your fingers to help it to stick to the block. Slowly and carefully remove the transfer tape leaving the vinyl image on the block.
Stack the blocks vertically or place them in a row to enjoy!

- Upload the Autumn SVG file.Click here to save the Autumn image as an SVG. *Note: not sure how to save an image? Once you’ve selected the SVG image, right-click and select Save or Save As.
- Maintain the size at 2.75” or adjust if needed.
- Right click on the word to duplicate.
