Celebrate the rock star Dad in your life with this easy Cricut Father’s Day Frame!
For the Dad who has everything (or is so stinkin’ hard to buy for!) I love this frame because it is something the whole family can help create. From little ones collecting rocks to the bigger kids weeding the vinyl (if you have not taught your kids to do this you are missing out!) this is a great family activity that any Dad would love. {FTC Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links which means I may make a commission on any purchase – at no additional cost to you!}
ROCK’N CRICUT FATHER’S DAY FRAME
There are so many ways this frame can be customized – the possibilities are endless. You can choose a different paint color for the frame (and/or for the vinyl), you can scavenge from rocks in your own yard or buy them at the craft store, you can use a larger frame, you can choose a different phrase (there are five included in the svg file) – let your kids (and your own supplies!) dictate your creation. That is half the fun!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- photo frame (this one is 3×5 but you can size the SVG to fit a larger frame)
- multi-surface or chalk paint (if you want to repaint the frame)
- Cricut machine (could be done on a Cricut Maker, which is available at Cricut, Michaels, and HSN)
- Standard Grip Mat
- Cricut Premium Vinyl – we used White
- one sheet patterned paper
- Cricut Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tool
Rock’n SVG cut file (see below to download)- Small Pebbles
- Hot Glue Gun with clear craft glue

HOW TO MAKE ROCK’ N CRICUT FATHER’S DAY PICTURE FRAME:
PREPARING THE FRAME:
1. Disassemble the photo frame, removing the glass. Set aside the glass for later. Paint the frame with 1-2 coats of paint if desired. Set frame aside to dry.
2. Turn on the glue gun. Once it is hot, starting in one corner of the picture frame, apply a dab of hot glue. Working quickly and carefully, press one small pebble into the glue.
3. Continue covering the surface of the frame with pebbles until finished. Set aside.

Upload Father’s Day
Click Ungroup.
2. Click and drag over each of the phrases separately. With the phrase highlighted, click on the “Weld” button”. Repeat for all phrases.
Adjust phrase sizes to fit inside the picture frame accordingly.
3. Insert one square shape onto the Design Space canvas to create the photo frame backing. Resize the square (don’t forget to “unlock” the shape so you can make it a rectangle) to match the size of the picture frame, in our case it was 3.5” wide x 5” high.
4. Use the color sync tab to assign colors to the images for different material types: Premium Vinyl and Cardstock (Deluxe Paper).
CUTTING:
1. Select “Make It” in Design Space.
2. For the vinyl phrases, set the material type to Premium Vinyl. Follow prompts for loading the mat into the Cricut Maker or Cricut Joy and cutting the Premium Vinyl. When prompted, unload the mat from the cutting machine.
Remove the Premium Vinyl from the mat.
3. For the paper photo frame backing, set the material type to cardstock, medium weight (unless you are using a specialty paper). Follow prompts for loading the mat into the Cricut Maker or Cricut Joy and cutting the paper. When prompted, unload the mat from the cutting machine.
4. Remove the Deluxe Paper from the mat.
HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE FRAME:
1. Place the glass from the photo frame on a flat surface.
2. Cut around the vinyl cut phrase with a pair of scissors.
3. Using the weeding tool, peel away the excess vinyl around the cut phrase and discard.
4. Cut a piece of transfer tape a bit larger than the size of the phrase.
5. Peel away the transfer tape backing and place the transfer tape
Peel away the vinyl backing, leaving just the phrase adhered to the transfer tape.
6. Position the phrase with the transfer tape on to the glass and press in place.
Press the vinyl phrase down with your fingers or with the Cricut scraping tool to help it to stick to the glass surface.
Slowly and carefully remove the transfer tape leaving the vinyl phrase on the glass.
7. Place the glass back into the pebble picture frame.
Place the cardstock into the frame against the glass. Reassemble the backing into the frame.

- Position the phrase with the transfer tape on to the glass and press in place. Press the vinyl phrase down with your fingers or with the Cricut scraping tool to help it to stick to the glass surface.Slowly and carefully remove the transfer tape leaving the vinyl phrase on the glass.
- Place the glass back into the pebble picture frame.Place the cardstock into the frame against the glass. Reassemble the backing into the frame.
