Looking for easy Cricut crafts just in time for Christmas? With one piece of wood and your Cricut machine you can create an inexpensive custom home decor piece that anyone would treasure!
I love to make personalized hostess gifts during the holidays – but you and I both know time becomes an issue and by the time Christmas rolls around I’ve resorted to store bought candles and tins of popcorn. Not this year! These personalized wood Christmas trees can be done in batches, then you can add a name in just a few minutes and be the most thoughtful guest at any party this year! {FTC Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links which means I may make a commission from any sales at no additional cost to you.}
CRICUT CRAFTS FOR CHRISTMAS: CUSTOM WOOD TREES
Consider this my big holiday tip this year. GET THE EASYPRESS MINI!!!! This little dynamo is perfect for little projects, but it is also just what you need for bigger projects that use intricate iron-on letters or temperamental materials – in this case painted wood. It is portable, lightweight and cute as can be. It would make a great Christmas gift for your favorite crafter (coughcough*you*coughcough)!

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE PERSONALIZED WOOD TREES WITH CRICUT
- Cut board In to five pieces – 2.5”, 4.5”, 6.5”, 8.5” and 10.5”. Sand the edges if needed and use spray paint to cover.
2. I’ve saved this file in Cricut Design Space so you just need to change the name to create your own! I created the green rectangles as a canvas so be sure to hide them before cutting.
3. Cut each image/phrase on Cricut machine – don’t forget to mirror your mat and put your material shiny side down!
Star – gold glitter iron-on
A Very Merry Christmas – white everyday iron-on
Family name – red glitter iron-on
4. Cut the white iron-on phrases in to strips before applying to wood blocks.
5. Use the Cricut Heat Guide to determine the correct heat/time (in this case it was the medium setting) and apply images/phrases to blocks. You can use any size EasyPress but I love using the EasyPress Mini for intricate projects like this because I can use the pointed edge to make sure every little piece gets heated. It is also super helpful when working with wood because the surface isn’t uniformly flat so if I used a larger EasyPress the heat might not be distributed evenly.
6. Stack your blocks and enjoy!

hello, I love this! quick question: why not use vinyl?
Beth Kingston says
Hi Maureen! Great question! I find that iron-on sticks better. We live in a pretty humid climate and when I would put vinyl outside sometimes it would come off. Iron-on stays on forever! š
Chandra says
Hello! I am having a hard time finding the design file in the Cricut design space community. Can you help guide me in the right direction, please? I am pretty new to this Cricut fun!

Me too, I can’t see it either, the design space is blank and “Make it” doesn’t come up…I hope the bug gets fixed b/c it is on my to make list and having it already configured will help me out a ton, I am green when it comes to the cricut!

Hi! I was curious did you use a 1ā thick wood x 2ā wide? I know you mentioned 2×3, but thought maybe the 3 was length (3ft)? Thank you!!!
Beth Kingston says
Hi Michele! 2×3 is the standard name of the board (what you would ask for at a lumber store). The boards themselves are typically 1 1/2″ thick. Hope that helps!
Katie says
Which spray paints did you use?!?
Beth Kingston says
Hi Katie! We used Rustoleum – Holiday Green and then (I think) Olive Bright? I know it was Holiday Green because we still have a can left! š
Kim says
Hi! Was it gloss or matte paint? Thanks!
Beth Kingston says
It was Rustoleum Satin! š
Nicole says
What font did you use for the family name?
Beth Kingston says
Ack! Sorry Nicole for some reason I’m not getting comment notifications. The name font is Babette (which is in Design Space)! š
